last night I watched a show on tv called "jamie's fowl dinners." i would like to recognise jamie oliver's efforts in publicising chicken welfare but (if you missed it) i dont think it was neccesary to let the audience hold these little chicks and then put them in a dispatching chamber for them to twitchingly die. it was so sad, i almost cried. i would have if i wasnt so angry. the reason he did this was to demonstrate what happens to all male chicks born for battery egg production, because they have no economic value. Battery chickens are kept in tiny cages in groups of 3 or 4, they have to stand on bars and they are never let out. it is literally chicken jail. however, there is a way to stop this. it is so simple. free range chickens are living the life. they are in the best place a chicken could ever want to be in. buying free range eggs, and not battery or cage eggs, lowers the demand on battery eggs and makes the demand on free range eggs higher. changing from cage eggs to free range eggs will make more free range places get built, less support goes into cage eggs and eventually all cages will go out of business. also, cage chickens are used for meat in every way. they cut off they good bits, breast and leg, and they put the carcasses into a big squishing machine to turn it into MRM. Mechanically retained meat. Every flavour enhancer, spice and salt goes into it to make it taste as much as possible like anything but MRM. this meat probably contains chicken waste. this meat is what hot-dogs are made of. don't buy hot dogs. i'm never going to eat one again. i never liked them anyway, made me feel sick. i dont think you would if you saw it.

he may look innocent but this is from a two year old photo. these days his hair is slowly turning brown and the expression shown here is a rare sight to see.
